Kathmandu, Aug. 9: Leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) and UCPN (Maoist) have held discussions today to forge consensus in the contents and disputed issues of the new constitution. The leaders have also agreed to settle the contents and disputed issues of the constitution through unilateral and multilateral talks. The leaders of both parties agreed to expedite homework for drafting the constitution in the slated timeframe, UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha told RSS after the meeting. He said the major task now was to seek consensus in the disputed issues. "We urged the NC leaders to bring the CPN-Maoist remaining out from the Constituent Assembly (CA) on board the constitution writing process," he shared.

 

The major political parties have differed on structure of federalism, form of governance, electoral system, judiciary and inclusion, among other issues. Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, central committee member and Minister for forest and Soil-Conservation Mahesh Acharya were present from the NCO side while Vice-chairman Shrestha and general secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara represented the UCPN (Maoist) in the talks held at the NC parliamentary party office, Singhadurbar.
