During his on-site inspection in the disaster-hit areas in Gulariya on Sunday, DPM Gautam pledged to make all necessary arrangements for the rescue and relief of victims. On the occasion, he directed the bodies concerned to take all possible measures for the disaster management with availability of medical facilities.
Floods from Babai and Karnali Rivers in the district have affected many people in the district and 12,000 have been rescued so far with the help of Nepal Army helicopters.
Some people climbed up trees and managed to save their lives while some waited for rescue by staying on raised land masses and house roofs. Flood in Babai River triggered by incessant rainfall entered into human settlements at Gulariya Municipality and other places.
Around 100 flood-affected who had to go hungry for three consecutive days have fallen sick. They have been rescued and admitted to the District Hospital. They have been gripped by diarrhea and high fever, District Health Chief Achyut Lamichhane said.
Many dead bodies have been recovered from the disasters in different parts of the district, Superintendent of Police Birendra Kumar Basyal said. Ten in Chepang and six in Baniyabhar are still missing. The victims have demanded the government to relocate them to safety and ensure food and accommodation.
Floods in the district causes losses of lives and property of millions of rupees, Chief District Officer Tej Prasad Poudel said. Gulariya Municipality, Kothiyagaun, Santoshitole, Tulasipur, Suheluwa Ratnapur, Balapur Paresiya, Kothiya, Baniyabhar, Patnana and Thapuwa have been affected the most.
The Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deputed in the flood-affected areas for the rescue and relief distribution to the victims. RSS
