Lelani Grove was with her 8-year-old grandson, Bryce Moser, at Pilchuck River. The boy was in the water at the swimming hole the family had been visiting for years, while his grandmother and mother stood watching from the water bank.
Wildlife officials believe that Bryce got too close to the mother otter’s pups. When attacks happen, they are most likely to be a female in July and August when mothers are out with their pups.
The grown otter swam toward little Bryce and began viciously attacking him, biting his head, clawing at him, while he bobbed up and down in the water.
