Kailali, Aug. 6: The Kailali district bandh or shut down called by the Far Western Truck and Tractor Entrepreneurs Committee has affected daily live since early morning today. The Committee has called for a bandh today in protest against the ban imposed by the Minister of Local Development in the excavation of construction materials including sand and pebbles from all the rivers in the district. As a result, all public transport services to the hilly district from Kailali and on the East-West highway have come to a halt.
Due to the bandh, commuters have been hardly hit while many Nepalis returning home after a break from employment in India are left stranded at Dhangadi bus park. The Committee has been organizing a series of protest programmes against the decision since July 27. "We have been forced to take to the streets as entrepreneurs and workers associated with the construction business will be displaced as a result of the decision", said Chairperson of the Committee Padma Singh Rawal.
